Learning How to Ride a Bike

So, my roommate bought a bike today and it sparked the conversation of my inability to ride a bike. Yes, I don't know how to ride a bike and I am just around the corner in being 21 (well, in 6 months). The funny this is, I tried to learn how to ride a bike when I was in 7 grade because we went on this school trip where we had a biking sightseeing tour. So, my friend and her father tried to teach me how to. Oh, I was rocking on a bike with training wheels and then it kind of just went downhill from there. The matter was never questioned again. I also used to use that as my fun fact when we were asked to introduce ourselves. Only lately, I don't know whether it is quite as funny anymore.

My roommate then made it a mission to teach my how to ride a bike by the end of the school year. Though I am highly pessimistic (yeah, see how negative I am? lol) about this matter because I was perfectly content with not knowing how to ride a bike for the rest of my life. I mean, my parents don't know to ride a bike either and they're just fine. But, I went with it anyways.

So, heres an account of day 1 of J's quest to biking:
We took the bike out to the hallway. Got on the bike. Was interrupted by a group of people coming out of the apartment next door. Also, slightly embarrassed. Attempted to peddle a few. Put my foot down because the bike was going straight and tilted. All of it happened 3 more times. Wheeled the bike back into my small studio.

Hm? Should I be optimistic or what?

  2. I second that! That's so exciting! But if you go to a parking lot or some big open space where you can get up some speed it'll actually feel better. Otherwise you'll just keep falling over...

And you could rent a bike for a day somewhere even you don't own one. Like central park... :)
