The One That Almost Wasn't

The game saving play.

Wow, I'm still in shock from this game. The last 6 minutes of this game really got me panicking. Actually this game got my nervous after first 5 minutes of the 1st quarter. It wasn't the prettiest win but a win is a win.

What was interesting going into this game was the transaction that happened on Saturday when they released Sterling Moore. That was another CB who gets released in a secondary/defense that is ranked dead last in the league in terms of yards allowed. Then, my bro, PChung is ruled out for the game which leaves several games in the secondary that needs to be filled. So, two wide receivers come in as cornerback and safety. Julien Edelman who seems to be able to work three way on the offense, defense and special teams. Interesting choice that they put Matthew Slater in at safety again. And, whatever happened to Sergio Brown getting the start?

This was like a back and forth shooting battle as one team scored and then the other responded immediately.

As much as the defense may be lacking and ranked pretty badly, they manage to make a critical play when you need them to most. Oh, I'm still waiting for Woodhead to make a touchdown this season. He got so close today (twice actually). He certainly has been playing well this season as well as taking on some new roles this season.

Shoutout to Gronk for breaking a tight end record with most receiving TDs. And, I'm sure he will be breaking this record a few more times by the end of this season.

The Good

Mayo's interception in the last 22 seconds of the game. Also thanks to Tracy White for that tackle.
Andre Carter's end zone sack in the very first drive which led to a touchdown by Big Vince.

Wilfork. First TD for the big man.

More TDs for Rob Gronkowski. Especially that one TD where he faked a block and received the ball. He then broke a tackle by a 260 lbs linebacker and continued to run for a TD. Also, did you catch the bit where Gronk goes and retrieves the ball that he broke the NFL record with after he spikes it? Its kind of funny.

Welker's TD
McCourty's interception. Though it didn't count because there was a penalty on the play, he made a critical play there for a second.

Oh, Woodhead also made some really good plays in the offense and so did Aaron Hernandez.

The Bad

Brady's endzone interception. Thats two this season so far and he hasn't really thrown one of those in a while. This also led to an extremely heated argument between him and Bill O'Brien that offensive coordinator. Belichick had to come over and calm everyone down.
Brady's communication with this receivers. The multiple incompletes in that one drive was extremely uncharacteristic of Brady and this offense. Welker, Branch, Gronkowski, Hernandez and Woodhead all missed passes from him. The one where Brady threw a pass intended to Woodhead was overthrown and it went straight over Woodhead's head. Common now, we all know that Woodheads not going to be able to catch that. There was just a series of miscommunications between Brady and the offense.

The Secondary! Needs serious help. They gave up so many plays to the Redskins today. And, somehow the condition of Jame Ihedigbo is worrying me because he seems to need to be escorted off the field at least once every game.
As much as I'm a Patriots fan, the personal foul on London Fletcher (Redskins) was kind of out of line. It was definitely a clean tackle by the linebacker and he didn't deserve that.

For once, I won't be drinking the haterade on Ocho today. He actually made a critical 3rd down play and there are so much more concerning things than him today.

Anyways, the state of this team continues to worry me especially with the Broncos coming up. Who knows what Tebow and them will pull on us. If the Pats played like this today and last week, I'm pretty sure Tebow will figure out how to put some points on the board next week.

Also, on an slightly unrelated note. I'm banking on the Raiders today in their game against the Packers.

In the interim, study hard if you're studying for finals and then we can all enjoy some more football next weekend.
