Islands of Lake Titicaca

Hola from Puno. Sillutani tombs. Apparently everyone needs one of these pictures with the rocks when they come here. lol

After much of a bus ride, it finally went on a boat. Knowing me, I love boats. We travelled to the floating island of Uros. Its a community of people who live on a island made out of totora reeds. The roots of the reeds are like corks so they build a foundation of the island out of it. They later layer it with reeds every year. It is like walking on a mattress. They are all pretty much self sustainable without leaving the island for much. They even made boats out of reed. This is such an interesting way of living. It is just amazing.

We went when to visit the island of amantani which is also another peruvian island. Definitely different from Uru people. Not as interesting as the Uru people in my opinion. Had lunch on the island and meant a cute girl whose family runs a guesthouse on the island. We made a sack out a table cloth. We was such a cutie.

After lunch we went back to shore and took a car ride to the Sillutani tombs where all the nobles of the pre-inca period were buried. The tombs were made out of stones but the nummies which were buried in fetal position were mostly destroyed when the Incas came. It over looks a lake.

Anyways, the photos make it more interesting:
1.A demo/presentation of how the island is built. what an interesting concept.
2. The colors of Peru. Lovin' it.
3. A reed boat. What an amazing creation. Handmade and made out of reed.
4. Father and I on a reed boat!
5. Women of Uros. Loving the colors!
6. People of the island of Amantani.
7. Island of Amantani
8. Mune tea for lunch! Herbal but good for digestion!
9. The cutie on the island, Guanti showing me how to make a bag out of a table cloth.
10. The landscape of Amantani Island. And, theres my mom and the rest of the group.
11. Group photo on atop the Sillutani tombs. Notice the 2 little peruvian friends that decided to join into the photos. And notice my father's expression in the back. He looks like he is about to fall off the rocks. lol
12. One of the tombs. All the mummies were destroyed when the Incas attacked. What an interesting creation.
13. With Illama (or was it something similar to one?). I'm lovin these animals. lol
14. Thats my mother trying to row the reed boat on the island of uro. The boat was lobe sided. lol

Getting onto the Andean Explorer tomorrow for a classic train experience. I'm actually looking forward to this 10 hour train ride.

Until next time,
j
